Consultants
Towers Watson has appointed David Holding and Gregory Jackson as investment consultants. David Holding joins the DC investment team in London from BNY Mellon Asset Management. Gregory Jackson joins the client consulting team in Reigate from Marsh & McLennan Companies, where he was a pension manager for its UK defined benefit scheme.

Russell Investments has appointed Stephen Metcalfe as a consultant in Russell’s Consulting and Advisory Services team.
Stephen joins from Friends Provident, where he was a consultant in the asset liability management team.

Quantum Advisory has recruited Katherine Ball, who previously worked for Mercer, as principal consultant and actuary.

Alan Collins joins the actuarial team at Spence & Partners.

Redington has appointed David Bennett a director in the investment consulting team. David has over 31 years’ experience in the City.

AWD Chase de Vere has appointed Patrick Connolly to the role of head of communications.

Independent trustees
David Bright has succeeded Mike Anthony as chairman of the board at Capital Cranfield Holdings which sets the strategic direction for this independent trustee. At the same time Judith Maguire, who is based in Scotland, has succeeded David as chairman of the trustees’ active business.

David joined Capital Cranfield Trustees in 2002, having formerly been a partner at Watson Wyatt (now Towers Watson) and a past president of the Pensions Management Institute.

Judith Maguire has been a director of Capital Cranfield Trustees since 1999. In 2002 she launched Scottish Pension Trustees in Edinburgh.

Following a successful three year term as group chairman, Mike Anthony continues with the independent trustee as a senior client director.

E-business
Jim Smith, group distribution director at Royal London, has been appointed a non-executive director of Origo Services. Origo was launched by 16 life assurance companies in June 1989 to facilitate the development of electronic trading between principals and agents for life, pensions and collective investment business.

Investment
Allenbridge EPIC investment Advisers (AEIA) has appointed Philip Read as a member of the investment panel. Philip retired last year from his appointment as the in-house UK pensions manager of The Metal Box Pension Scheme. He is also the non-executive chairman of the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme.

Warming the NEST
Lawrence Churchill has been appointed as the chair of the NEST Corporation. He will start by recruiting other trustee members.

Lawrence’s appointment is for an initial period of five years at a salary of  £97,500 a year.

Lawrence Churchill is currently the chair of the Pension Protection Fund and will retain this role until 30 June 2010.

Lawrence is also a member of the Board for Actuarial Standards, the senior independent director of Good Energy Group and of the Tunbridge Wells Equitable Friendly Society and a non-executive director of BUPA. He was previously chief executive for UK, Irish and International Life at Zurich Financial Services and managing director of Nat West Life & Investments.

All change at TPAS
Partha Dasgupta is the new chairman of The Pensions Advisory Service. The appointment is for a term of three years.

Partha is also a non-executive director of the UK Statistics Authority and a member of the audit committee, a non-executive member of the Save the Children (UK) Investment Committee and a director of the SAUL Trustee Company.

Partha joined the Pension Protection Fund as director of investment and finance in 2005 and served as its chief executive and accounting officer from 2006 to 2009. Before this, he spent ten years at Barclays Global Investors. He began his career as an analyst at the Prudential.
