Consultants

Jon Exley, previously a partner within Mercer’s specialist financial strategy group, joins the investment advisory practice at KPMG in the UK as a partner.

The firm has appointed Phil Howard as a senior associate in its governance and trustee service group. Before joining Mercer, Phil was the operational information manager at the National Employment Savings Trust (Nest).

Mercer’s investment consulting business has appointed Aled Jones as a consultant in its responsible investment team.

Public sector pensions specialist Debbie Forbes has joined Anthony Hodges Consulting (AHC) as a communications consultant. Debbie, who has over 25 years’ experience, previously worked for aquilaheywood and for the West Yorkshire Pension Fund. As part of her role with AHC, Debbie advises the Local Authority Pensionweb team, an online community for pensions professionals.

Grant Thornton has appointed Neil Knights as a pensions audit director. Neil arrives from the pensions team at Baker Tilly.

Crispin Lace and Nick Spencer join Russell Investments as directors of the consulting and advisory services team respectively from Mercer and GAM respectively.

BBS Consultants & Actuaries has promoted Nick Mellor to the role of investment analyst.

Skip McMullan has joined Pi as an associate. Skip is currently the chair of the Bank of America UK Pension Plan.

Trade association

Andrew Roberts of Barnett Waddingham is the new chairman of the Association of Member-Directed Pension Schemes, the trade body for SSAS and SIPP providers, while Neil MacGillivray of James Hay is honorary secretary, with Elaine Turtle of DP Pensions and Geoff Buck of Killik & Co acting as honorary treasurer and membership secretary respectively.

Insurance

Standard Life has promoted Jamie Jenkins to head of workplace strategy and Ann Flynn to head of corporate marketing.

Just Retirement, provider of enhanced annuities, has hired Jason Wright as programme director, who joins from Rothesay Life, where he was chief operating officer.

AEGON Global Pensions has appointed Iain Stringer as regional sales director for the UK, Ireland and the Nordics, with immediate effect.

DC

Fidelity Worldwide Investment has promoted Rob Fisher as head of marketing in its DC and workplace savings business.

Star movers

Martin takes the helm of the RBS pension scheme

Ray Martin has been appointed group head of pensions and benefits at RBS. The role is based at the group’s headquarters in Edinburgh.

Ray leaves his current position as vice president of UK pensions at DHL to take up the role and will join the group in January. He has over 30 years’ experience working for major, international companies including Diageo, AstraZeneca and Scottish & Newcastle.

His responsibilities will include managing the group’s pension scheme, which is one of the largest in the UK with over 220,000 members and assets of around £19bn.

Corporate addition

Barnett Waddingham has strengthened its corporate team with the appointment of Andrew Vaughan as a partner. He will advise corporate clients on a variety of issues, including risk reduction exercises and accounting matters.

With over 27 years’ experience in the pensions industry, Andrew joins from Mercer where he was a senior partner.

Andrew is currently vice chairman of the International Association of Actuaries and honorary secretary of the Association of Consulting Actuaries.
