Mitchell joins Dalriada

UK professional trustee Dalriada Trustees has appointed Andrew Mitchell as its latest independent trustee representative. A law graduate, Andrew is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and has held office as company secretary of several listed companies, including ScottishPower. He has over 20 years’ experience of pensions management and trusteeship and served for a number of years as chair of trustees of the pension schemes in the ScottishPower group, including the Manweb group of the Electricity Supply Pension Scheme.


New DG for AIFA

The new director general of the Association of Independent Financial Advisers (AIFA) is Stephen Gay. He is also director general of the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries and the Association of Finance Brokers. Stephen has more than 25 years’ experience of the life and pensions market and intermediary distribution. Most recently director of distribution development at Aviva UK Life, Stephen developed and launched the industry’s first and largest financial adviser academy. He also led Aviva’s work around the Retail Distribution Review.

 

Trade associations

 


Dr Tim May is the new chief executive officer of the Association of Private Client Investment Managers and Stockbrokers (APCIMS). APCIMS represents 175 FSA authorised firms that advise over 2m private investors. APCIMS members have 30,000 employees in 500 offices throughout the UK and manage over £400bn of individuals, trust and charities. The Pensions Management Institute has appointed Terri-Ann Humphreys as its first ever business development executive. Terri-Ann has previously held senior marketing and business development roles at Lane Clark & Peacock, Prudential, UBS Global Asset Management and Buck Consultants.


Consultants


Two senior appointments have been made to the pensions team at Jackal Advisory. Michael O’Connor joins as a partner and Simon Kew as a senior manager. Previously Michael was an insolvency practitioner for over 20 years. More recently, he has provided covenant advice to employers and trustees. In 2008/9 he spent a year seconded to the Pensions Regulator (TPR) with responsibility for approval of valuations and clearance applications.

Simon Kew has many years of pensions experience including joining TPR in 2007 where he led on some of the country’s largest multinational schemes.

LCP has appointed Andy Cheseldine as a principal in its defined contribution services team. Andy joins LCP from Aon Hewitt.

Mandy Turner joins Mercer as a senior consultant in its investment consulting business based in Bristol after 15 years with Aon Hewitt where she worked as a scheme actuary and pensions consultant. Paul Enderby has rejoined Mercer’s Retirement, Risk & Finance business as a senior consultant and leader for defined contribution pensions. He joins from Towers Watson.

Bluefin Corporate Consulting has appointed Mark Bondi to its technical team as a senior technical adviser. Mark joins from Heath Lambert where he held a similar position.

 


Independent trustees


Law Debenture has strengthened its pension trustee team with the appointment of Michael Chatterton, an actuary, with over 25 years’ experience, who joins from Towers Watson and Donny Hay, a chartered accountant with 25 years’ experience.


Law firms


Pensions specialist Dawn Heath has been promoted to the role of counsel in the employment, pensions and benefits department of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.  She joined Freshfields in 1998 and qualified as a solicitor in 2000.
