Pension schemes

The £4.41bn Pensions Trust welcomes two new directors to its trustee board. Peter Boyd, a director trustee of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group Pension Fund, joins as an employer nominated director, while Trevor Peel is a new member nominated director. He is chair of the North East Strategic Health Authority and a former member of the RCN Pension Committee. Joe Robertson, a member of The Pensions Trust since March 1994, has also been re-elected as a member nominated director.

These appointments follow the retirement of Lynda Howe (deputy chair) and Bryan Clark (member nominated director) after a combined service of 11 years.

Sarah Smart will continue as independent chair, with Clare Smith as deputy chair.

Consultants

JLT Benefit Solutions has hired Lorraine Harper from Aon Hewitt as a regional director leading the trustee governance services group.

Mercer has appointed Patrick Race as head of its UK investment consulting business. Russell Lee has also joined the firm as a senior consultant in its financial strategy group based in London.

Punter Southall Pension Administration has appointed Damian Magee, who joins from Xafinity Paymaster, as senior consultant with national responsibility for administration business development.

At the same firm Gary Davies is promoted to principal and head of regional administration, with responsibility for Bristol, Birmingham and Edinburgh administration services.

Julie Stothard joins the actuarial team at Bluefin Corporate Consulting, while Nigel Evans arrives from Mercer as a new business consultant.

Previously a client director at Baillie Gifford, Linda Selman becomes head of public sector investments at Hymans Robertson. The firm also welcomes back Alison Murray as head of policy and technical development, after a brief spell with the Government Actuary’s Department.

NorthgateArinso has boosted its pensions sales team with the appointment of Pete Holman as a business developer in the pensions division.

HamishWilson has appointed three new members to its team: Craig Simmons as director of consulting delivery, Richard Mulcahy as non-executive director and Helen-Marie Hill as financial controller.

Baker Tilly has appointed Philip Briggs as audit director for its national pensions group.

Law firms

Cardiff pensions lawyer Stuart Earle is promoted to the partnership at Eversheds.

CMS Cameron McKenna has appointed Pete Coyne and Emma Frost as partners.

Star movers

 

Scott to head the actuarial profession

The Council of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries has elected Philip Scott to be its president-elect. Mr Scott’s appointment takes effect from
27 June and his term runs for a year, prior to him becoming president in the following year.

Mr Scott has extensive financial services experience. A non-executive director of Royal Bank of Scotland since November 2009, he is also chair of its board risk committee. He has been a non-executive director of Diageo since 2006 and is chairman of its audit committee.

During a distinguished career with Aviva, his roles included chief financial officer of Aviva plc, chairman of Aviva Investors and group executive director of both Aviva International and Norwich Union Life.


Top FRC role for Osborne

The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) has appointed Joanna Osborne as deputy chair of the Financial Reporting Review Panel.

Joanna Osborne has recently retired as a partner at KPMG. She has extensive technical knowledge of global financial reporting, audit and business issues and was a member of KPMG’s International Financial Reporting Group from 2001–3.

Commenting on the appointment, FRC chairman Baroness Hogg said: “Joanna’s understanding of how global business works will be of great value.”
